Are you concerned about traffic problems around South Eugene High School?

Katja Heide, South Eugene parent, invites any parents interested in working together to tackle the many challenges our high traffic situation presents including: heavy automobile traffic mornings and afternoons, chaotic lunchtime traffic, and a newly renovated parking lot that offers little safety for students walking or biking. Katja would like parents to come together to raise awareness about this issue among students, faculty and staff as well working to obtain help from the city and LTD's Safer Routes to School program and to see how awareness of the benefits of alternate transportation might even become infused into the SEHS curriculum. Churchill H.S. has also been struggling with pedestrian safety issues, particularly on the east side of campus. A fatality in August at one of the worst spots on Bailey Hill Road raised the stakes. A group of parents and community members have been meeting to identify ways to make this area safer. Some of the issues may be similar to ones at South.
This group will be meeting again on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at 5:30 p.m. in the Churchill High School library. We expect a report from the Eugene Public Works department about what appear to be the most reasonable 'solutions'. Everyone is welcome to attend.
